How waking up early totally changed my Mom game
Me the Night before
Set alarm for 6AM after mentally calculating the time I need to get all the things done and reach office on time. I might even add a little buffer time just in case I get stuck in traffic or my kiddo throws a tantrum.
Next day when alarm goes off
I mean it is rare that there be traffic at this time! Let’s just sleep for 15 minutes more.
Again alarm goes off
Do I have to shower? I did shower at night! That is good enough. 15 minutes more
Beep Beep Beep!
Do I have to eat? I mean I CAN survive without breakfast for one day. I ‘am just too tired.
Finally Your Internal alarm startles you and you look at the clock! God!late!
Hurry hurry hurry! Wake kids up! Breakfast is an apple! No time to make the bed! Did I brush my teeth? No time to think! And the ever famous line “Tomorrow is definitely going to be different!”
Story of our lives right?
I do not have to tell you how the rest of the day will look like. Having a start like this to your day is the worst thing you can do to your self. At the end of the day you feel exhausted and unaccomplished and just meh!
When I had this realization I started looking for ways I can avoid this situation.
I started watching videos and reading articles on all those “sound good” topics like Effective time management, Self improvement etc. Everyone seemed to advocate the idea of waking up early and building a powerful morning routine.
That is it! I was determined to wake up early and start my day right.
Thank god I did, because It totally changed my life!
I always knew that waking up early is a good thing to do, I mean it is just common sense right? But I never did put it into action to feel the benefits.
After becoming a mom I craved for some time alone to just think and connect with myself. Waking up early could help me with that as well. So I just set my alarm and this time did not hit the snooze button,
By early I do not mean 4 AM or 5 AM. Just get up an hour before your kids wake up.
Trust me this habit alone will be a total game changer for you.
Why get up early?
Addition of much needed extra hours to your day.
How many times have you looked at the clock during the day and thought “ Is that the time? Oh man! I still have to get this this this and THIS done”.
Easy way to avoid this feeling is to wake up early. You can use the beautiful time in the morning to do things that make you feel rejuvenated
Whatever floats your boat
- If there is a competitive exam you’re preparing for or an online course you’re taking, use the holy hours of morning for these.
- If you have a side hustle you’re working on, this is the best time to work on it.
- You could just make a cup of coffee and drink while it’s still hot without any interruption, catch up on some reading and plan your day.
- You could pray, meditate or write in your gratitude journal.
Boosts your confidence
Im a total “to do list” person. I love my lists. At the end of the day when I see my list and those check boxes ticked off which says I have accomplished most of the things that I wanted to, it just makes me so proud.
Puts you in proactive mode, not reactive.
When the chaos of the world starts, you are calm because you have already had your alone time which has put you in an awesome mood.
You should wake up when you want to wake up and not make a crying baby wake u up. How many of us have thought “Oh god! Why in the world cant this kid just sleep, Im so fed up! ARghhhh!”
Your kids do not want to wake up to a complaining, groggy mom.
I have found that, now when my kid wakes up I’m able to cuddle and talk to him. I’m not hurrying him up because I want to complete other chores.
I can enjoy my kids’ morning laughs and kisses. This puts him in a great mood as well. What a lovely way to start your day.
You look good and feel great!
You can shower and dress at your own pace, this alone totally sold me to the idea of trying to wake up early. There will actually be time to pick your outfit, iron your clothes, may be even wing that eyeliner.
Please don’t be that mom in the supermarket with hair all messed up, forever in lounge clothes, tired eyes, dried up drool on the sweater and kids running around.
Trust me dressing up makes you feel great. You laugh a little more and have a swing to your step because you know, you just know you have it all together!
If these reasons are not enough let me give you a big one. You can have your morning bathroom break uninterrupted ? We all know how it feels to have a crying baby banging on your door and you need to cut short your business in the bathroom. Not anymore!
